Unifor's Stellantis Talks Reach a Strike Authorization Vote
Unifor had hoped to reach a tentative agreement with Stellantis without a strike vote, the way it did earlier this year with Ford and General Motors. That hope has given way to strike authorization votes, the outcome national president Lana Payne, Stellantis master bargaining committee chair James Stewart and vice-chair Vito Beato said they wanted to avoid.
The Ford and GM comparison is the informative part. A deal settled without asking members for strike authorization is the union's own working definition of an ordinary round — and it is now the benchmark Stellantis is being measured against.
