NGC 4698’s spiral arms stand out around its outer disk
Hubble’s view of NGC 4698 shows a Milky Way‑like spiral 55 million light‑years away whose arms are faint near the centre and form a ring‑like structure, while the bright core is dominated by older stars and a growing supermassive black hole. This outer‑only arm pattern makes the galaxy appear out‑of‑sync with typical spirals whose arms wind all the way to the centre.
