Itaú's AI Push Comes With a Chat Window in Front and a Governance Platform Behind

OpenAI's account of its work with Itaú names two pieces of the same strategy: ia.i, a conversational interface for customers, and IARA, a governance platform. The bank is applying an “AI First” approach across customers and employees, in what OpenAI calls one of Brazil's most regulated sectors. The pairing is the part worth noticing. A customer-facing assistant is the visible product; a governance layer is the machinery that decides what the assistant is allowed to do, which is the piece a bank in a heavily regulated market cannot leave implicit. Because this is the vendor describing its own customer's deployment, read the architecture as design intent rather than a demonstrated result. Whether the guardrails hold under real traffic is a question an outside evaluation would answer, not a case study.
