Ed Sheeran opens a solo concert with remarks on Gaza
Ed Sheeran opened a solo concert Saturday with comments about Gaza, after controversy over his tour and the withdrawal of supporting acts in solidarity with opener Macklemore, who was dropped after making pro-Palestinian comments onstage. NPR reports Sheeran described the situation in Gaza as "catastrophic and unjustifiable."
The dispute has visibly split the audience. Some Sheeran fans at the show say they came to enjoy music and are not there for politics. That's the whole tension in one venue: a headliner who now says something from the stage, and a crowd that partly wishes he wouldn't.
