Berlanti and Schechter Are Producing a True-Crime Dark Comedy for Amazon MGM

Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are producing Hang the Decorators, a dark comedy feature at Amazon MGM Studios written by Mike Makowsky, whose credits include Death by Lightning. The studio has optioned the rights to the project, which Deadline reports is in current development — that is the stage where a film has a writer, a home, and a producer, and still has to survive everything else. The conceit is a true story, following Alexander Blarek and Frank Pellecchia. A genuine crime story played for dark comedy puts a lot of weight on tone; the gap between deadpan and tasteless is usually a matter of whose discomfort the joke lands on.
