Berger and Libatique Take the Top Honors at Mallorca

Edward Berger, the Oscar-winning director of Conclave and All Quiet on the Western Front, and cinematographer Matthew Libatique, a three-time Oscar nominee whose credits include Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan, will receive the top honors at the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival. The festival takes place in Mallorca, the largest of Spain's Balearic Islands, with a run beginning Oct. 28. Handing a cinematographer the same headline honor usually reserved for directors is a small statement about where a film's look actually comes from — and a reminder that a director's style is partly borrowed from the person lighting the shot.
