The Family Stone Sequel Is Called 'The Families Stone'
Jean Smart has joined the cast of Searchlight Pictures' “The Families Stone,” the sequel to the 2005 Christmas comedy “The Family Stone.” Note the plural: the family has become families. She joins the previously announced cast that Variety lists with their characters — Rachel McAdams as Amy Stone, Sarah Jessica Parker as Meredith Morton, Claire Danes as Julie Morton, Dermot Mulroney as Everett Stone, Craig T. Nelson as Kelly Stone and Luke Wilson as Ben Stone. Whether “families,” plural, means the film widens its frame beyond one household is exactly what a title change like that invites you to wonder.

“The Family Stone” becoming “The Families Stone” makes the whole thing sound less like a family and more like a support group.
The title is the least interesting part. Reassembling that cast with those character names two decades on is the actual bet.
