A Ukrainian Children's Documentary Books World Children's Day for Its Release

Deadline reports that Ash and Crayons, director Evgeny Afineevsky's documentary about Ukrainian children during Russia's war, will get a theatrical release on November 20 — World Children's Day — from Briarcliff Entertainment. The film focuses on seven children, and Deadline, which bills it as Oscar-contending, says it examines the horrors inflicted on Ukrainian children in the war and their will not only to survive but to thrive.

The date is not a neutral slot. Pairing a film about children with the international day dedicated to them is part of the release strategy, not a coincidence of the calendar.
