A Curiosity Panorama Left Without White Balancing

NASA's Curiosity rover keeps adding to its gallery of strange Martian shapes, and one of the newest is a set of yardangs — wind-carved crags — revealed in a zoomed-in crop of a broader panorama captured on Aug. 11, 2026.

The processing is the interesting part. Unlike most of Curiosity's Mastcam images, this one was processed without white balancing, preserving the early morning appearance of the scene. Every rover photograph is an edited document; the editing step that was skipped here is usually invisible.
