Why a Moonwalk Charges the Spacesuit
Walking across the lunar surface puts electric charge on a spacesuit. NASA describes two sources: tribocharging from the walking itself, and plasma charging from the ambient plasma around the Moon. The problem is severely compounded when an astronaut enters lunar shadows and permanently shadowed regions. And NASA locates the risk at a specific moment — when the astronaut returns to the spacecraft.
