Xi Heads to Washington, and Europe Stays in the Middle

China's Xi Jinping is travelling to Washington this week, and Deutsche Welle reports that whatever comes out of his talks with President Trump, the EU will likely remain stuck between erratic US trade policy and Beijing's export machine. That is the structural trap for Brussels: the two largest trading partners are negotiating directly with each other, while Europe absorbs the spillover from both.
