Tokyo's TIFFCOM Adds an Asia-Europe Co-Production Panel as Atmovie Ties Up With Ties That Bind

Variety reports that producers behind Hayakawa Chie's Cannes competition title "Renoir" are among the speakers at a session on Asia-Europe co-production at Tokyo's TIFFCOM market on Oct. 30. The same report says Japanese accelerator Atmovie Global Track is formalising a partnership with Europe-based workshop Ties That Bind.

The session is an open panel called "Building Creative Partnerships," and its stated subject is how producers and directors work together. That is the relationship co-production usually lives or dies on. Financing and market access can be arranged on paper; whether a director and a producer can agree on how to work is a different problem. A panel aimed at the working relationship rather than the paperwork is at least pointed at the right joint.
