The Moon Rock That Also Shows Up in Madagascar

Anorthosite is common on the Moon's surface, where its light, highly reflective patches are visible from Earth with the unaided eye as the lunar highlands. It is not a Moon exclusive. The same rock crops up across Earth's surface — eastern Canada, Scandinavia, southern India — and in Madagascar, where it forms a striking round feature. It is a reminder that the bright grey we associate with the Moon is a property of a mineral, not of a place.
