The Canada Route to OpenAI's Models on Bedrock Runs Through Inference Profiles

AWS says OpenAI's GPT-5.6 models (Sol, Terra and Luna), GPT-6 (Astra, Sol and Luna) and GPT-6.1 Sol are now reachable from its Canada (Central) and Canada West (Calgary) regions through cross-Region inference.

The plumbing is the inference profile: a logical identifier passed in place of a raw model ID, defining a model and the set of regions to which Bedrock may route a request. AWS says two profile types are available from Canada.

Organizations that fence off regions with service control policies get the bedrock:InferenceProfileArn condition key, which lets cross-region inference traffic through while still denying direct calls to unapproved regions.

Take

The profile is an elegant place to park a policy decision: your code names a profile, and the profile — not the application — holds the list of regions a request may be routed to.

Pushback

Read the wording closely, though: reachable from Canada describes where you call in from, while the destination set lives in the profile. The condition key exists precisely because some organizations want the routing without opening every region to direct calls.
