Fréchette Blames Her Own Party Over a Foreign-Interference Story
Coalition Avenir Québec Leader Christine Fréchette blamed members of her own party for trying to get journalists to pursue a story about foreign interference in the electoral process, CBC reports, as she tried on Monday to distance herself from a controversy that has followed her on the campaign trail for days. Blaming the staff is one way to answer the question without owning the episode: the story stays in the news, but the leader is no longer its author — at least on her own account. Whether that version holds for the rest of the campaign is another matter.
