Beckham's £38.5m Came From Dividends, Not a Salary
Sir David Beckham's stake in DRJB Holdings has entitled him to almost half of £85.5m in dividend payments — a payout of £38.5m, per BBC Business.
The distinction matters. A dividend is a distribution of profit to whoever owns shares; it isn't a fee for showing up or a wage for services. It rewards ownership rather than labour, and it arrives whether or not the person does any work that year. That's why retired athletes with equity in their own brands can post career-high earnings long after the last match: they stopped being employees and became shareholders.
