An AI-Tuned Lipid Recipe Makes mRNA Vaccines More Heat-Tolerant
RNA vaccines require ultracold storage, one of the practical drawbacks that comes with the platform. MIT researchers attacked that problem at the packaging rather than the payload: with help from an AI algorithm, they tweaked the formulation surrounding the lipid nanoparticles typically used to deliver mRNA, making the resulting vaccines more heat-resistant.
The interesting part is where the change lands. The lipid nanoparticle is the delivery vehicle, so reformulating it is a different engineering problem from redesigning the vaccine itself.
