Alberta's Premier Calls a Separatist Offer to the U.S. 'Ridiculous'

CBC reports that Premier Danielle Smith called it "absurd" and "ridiculous" for separatist leaders to offer the United States government access to fresh water and resource royalties in return for its help establishing an independent Alberta.

The premier's language puts a particular version of the separatist case outside the bounds of serious argument: the idea that the province's water and resource revenue could be the price of American recognition.
