A Swedish Genre Label's Pitch: the Talent Comes to Us
Mylla Films, a Swedish boutique genre outfit, was launched at Cannes in 2022 by Patrik Andersson — a producer on Midsommar — and Jakob Abrahamsson, chief executive of the Nordic distributor NonStop Entertainment. Since then, Variety reports, it has become a draw for Nordic genre talent: Abrahamsson says people with substantial CVs and filmographies have been reaching out to the label rather than waiting to be courted. For a small company, that is the whole business model in one sentence. A boutique label cannot outbid anyone for projects; what it can offer is a short path to people who already know how to make this kind of film.
