A Recruit Says He Learned a Group's Real Nature Only in Person

Second Sons Canada presents itself as a “men's nationalist club” devoted to fitness and to preserving Canada's heritage. A former military member who tried to join tells CBC he learned the group's real nature only when he met members face to face — a nature he describes as including adoration for Hitler, neo-Nazis and hatred for Jews — and was then presented with a confidentiality contract. The sequencing is the uncomfortable part. The public description is the door; the ideology and the paperwork arrive after the newcomer is already in the room.
