What Managed Retrieval Does With a Scattered Claim File
Insurance claim answers do not sit in a field. They are spread across adjuster diary entries, repair estimates, police reports, payment ledgers and scanned attachments. Retrieval-augmented generation is aimed at exactly that shape of problem: instead of answering from model memory, you retrieve the relevant documents and make the model answer from them. On AWS, Amazon Bedrock handles the parsing, chunking, embeddings and vector storage, which lets a builder put a conversational interface on top that returns cited answers drawn from claim files. One caveat belongs in view: the vendor's walkthrough uses synthetic claim records and does not describe a production customer deployment. A citation is a claim about where an answer came from, not proof that the answer is correct — and that distinction is the whole difficulty of putting retrieval into real work.
