Whales Breathe Air Through Holes on Top of Their Heads
Whales are marine mammals that spend their lives in water and breathe air through blowholes on top of the head. They live in oceans around the world, from warm tropical waters to the cold seas surrounding the poles, and they rank among the largest animals on Earth. The blowhole placement is the part worth noticing: an animal that lives entirely in water still has to come up for air, and the airway sits on top of its head, where a surfacing whale can use it first.
