Wab Kinew Says Residential School Denialism Should Stay Legal

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew calls residential school denialism detestable but not illegal, and argues that shouldn't change. He is pushing back on federal Manitoba New Democrat Leah Gazan's effort to add it to the Criminal Code. That leaves two elected figures from the same political tradition on opposite sides of a question with no tidy answer: whether the criminal law is the right instrument against denial of historical atrocity, or whether a state should stay out of the business of prosecuting it.
