Two Belugas Were Already Sick When They Arrived in Chicago, Post-Mortems Indicate
Post-mortem examinations for two former Marineland belugas indicate the whales were sick when they arrived at their new home at Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, CBC reports. Peekachu, 23, and Rain, 20, were part of an operation that rehomed 30 belugas and four dolphins from Niagara Falls, Ontario, to aquariums in the United States and Spain this summer. Thirty belugas and four dolphins crossing two continents in a single season is a logistical exercise with little slack in it; the reported finding concerns the animals' condition at the start of that journey, not at its end.
