The Three Other Rs an Inclusive Classroom Needs

Much is said about the three Rs of teaching — reading, writing and arithmetic. Writing in The Conversation Canada, a researcher argues that inclusive classroom cultures need three others: routines, rituals and rites of passage.

Especially in classrooms composed of a diversity of learners, the author writes, those are building blocks rather than decoration.

Routines and rituals are the easy ones to picture; a rite of passage is the harder one for a teacher to plan on purpose.
