Russia's Health Watchdog Calls a Second Infection Report Fake

Rospotrebnadzor, Russia's public health watchdog, rejected as fake reports that a second person fell ill after coming into contact with a lab worker, in a statement issued Thursday. PBS NewsHour reported the denial. The statement offered nothing further about the lab worker's illness and death, or about the reasons for the sweeping emergency measures imposed in the region. That leaves the scale of the response — and what officials believed they were responding to — as the unresolved part of the episode.
