Pathé Restores Sofia Coppola's 'Marie Antoinette' Alongside a Resistance Filmmaker's Archive
Pathé's latest restorations include Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette" and three works by Louis Daquin, whom Variety describes as a champion of the Communist Resistance during the German occupation. The films are being unveiled as the studio's owners, Jérôme Seydoux and Sophie Seydoux, are honored at the Lumière Film Festival's International Classic Film Market in Lyon.
A studio's restoration slate is an argument about what deserves to keep being looked at, and this one is unusually wide: a cult classic with a live following sharing a shelf with Occupation-era political filmmaking. Coppola gets the restoration; Daquin gets rediscovery on the same bill.
