New Delhi's Fortress Weekend
New Delhi has been turned into what Deutsche Welle calls a fortress ahead of Saturday's planned protests against the chief of India's electoral body: train and metro cancellations, barricades, and a heavy police presence. Cancelling metro service is a blunt instrument. It clears the streets around the protest, but it also strands the people who live and work there and have nothing to do with the demonstration, which is the quiet cost of pre-emptive security in a dense capital.
