More Than 6,000 Worlds, and Counting
An exoplanet is any planet beyond our solar system. Most orbit other stars, but some free-floating rogue planets are untethered. NASA reports more than 6,000 confirmed, out of billions believed to exist. By measuring sizes and masses, astronomers see compositions ranging from rocky, like Earth and Venus, to gas-rich, like Jupiter and Saturn.
