Lubbock farmland, one year apart: a green patchwork and a parched one

NASA's Earth Observatory set two satellite views of the same farmland around Lubbock, Texas, side by side. On September 22, 2025, the image shows a patchwork of green and brown agricultural fields and several playa lakes. On September 9, 2026, the same region appears parched, with much less green vegetation and mostly dry lakes.
