AWS Sells the Wrapper Around the Model
AWS's own account of its agent tooling rests on a modest claim: as models get more capable and model choice expands, model performance is no longer the only question. The company's answer is to compete on the layer around whichever model a customer picks. Two products carry that argument. AgentCore is described as managed infrastructure for building, connecting and deploying enterprise agents using any framework or model. Strands is an open-source toolkit for building agents that run anywhere. Read together, the pitch is portability: the runtime is not tied to one vendor's model or one framework, so the model becomes the swappable part. That is a vendor describing its own product line, and “any framework or model” is a stated capability rather than a measured result. The practical test is whether a working agent actually moves between models once it is in production.
