A Trial Opens in Brampton Over One of Canada's Largest Gold Heists

A man accused in what investigators have called one of the largest gold heists in Canadian history is set to face trial starting Monday in Brampton, Ont., Global News reports. The wording is worth keeping straight as the case moves into court: the scale of the heist, as described, comes from the investigators who worked it rather than from a finding, and “one of the largest” leaves room for cases bigger than this one. Superlatives attached to a police account and superlatives confirmed by a courtroom are not the same thing, and only one of them is at issue now.
