A First-Time Screenwriter's 'Goldfish' Finds a Producer

Deadline reports that Monarch Media has announced it will produce Goldfish, a coming-of-age feature dramedy, and that the project is the first outing as a screenwriter for Jonathan Yu. Being on the way toward a produced script is itself the news.

The protagonist Deadline describes is a 17-year-old high school senior who presents as detached, ironic and emotionally armored, and who underneath is quietly paralyzed by fear. A coming-of-age film with a hero whose defense is irony has an obvious risk — the irony can become the movie's own voice — and an obvious payoff if it doesn't.
