A First Nation Asks Bell for Documents on an AI Data Centre Near Regina

The Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation has sent a letter to Bell Canada requesting documentation and information about the AI data centre that is under construction near Regina, Global News Canada reports.

On its face the ask is modest: paperwork about a project a community will live beside. It also points at an easily overlooked part of the AI build-out, which tends to be argued in terms of chips, power and investment. A model runs in a building somewhere, and the somewhere has neighbours with an obvious stake in what the building is, what it will do, and who decided. Asking for the documents first is the polite version of that question.

What the letter does not settle is anything about the project itself; it opens a request, and the response to it will say more than the request does.
