A B.C. lawyer, his client's condo, and 75 per cent of her estate
CBC reports that a B.C. lawyer, Leonard Hil Marriott, was found to have misappropriated $117,000 from a client with dementia. He also prepared documents to give himself 50 per cent ownership of the woman's condo and 75 per cent of her estate.
The second detail is the one that lingers. The paperwork meant to arrange her affairs was, on the finding CBC reports, being drawn up to arrange his stake in them — which is a different kind of misconduct from simply moving money out of an account, and a reminder of how much trust sits inside ordinary estate documents.
